be our guest.

In my absence of blogging on a regular basis lately, we have had guests quite often here at the house which makes my heart happy. Thankfully, I have (over many many weeks, ok, months) managed to make the guest room a serene, calm, welcoming space. Unlike the dark empty space it once was...

Along with a few coats of fresh creamy white paint, a made-over armoire, new bedding essentials, and a few thrifty accessories, I also found a lovely headboard on Craigslist that had pretty features with a not so pretty color/finish. Nothing a little paint can't fix, right?

See all that potential?

Of course it's not finished, no room ever really is. I'd like to distress the crisp white armoire, and that little side table ($3.99 from goodwill by the way!) needs it stripes to be more turquoise than gray/blue I think. And I'm thinking there should be an old chippy sign above the bed.

But, for the next week I'm off to find a cure from saltwater in the form of the sea. It's been a busy, rough couple of months and we're off to enjoy a much needed family week at the beach in Ocean Isle, NC. But be prepared, because I've already 'googled' mulitple flea markets in the area. :)

I hope you lovelies are enjoying tons of summer festivities and more laughter than your stomach can handle.

The Lettered Cottage

  1. LOVE!!!!!!!!!!! seriously it's amazing!!!
Being at the beach is food for the soul enjoy yourselves!!

  2. PS where's the turquoise pillowcases and bedskirt from?? my guestroom is very similar with all white so I would love touches of turquoise!

  3. LOVE IT ALL!!! The bed looks straight out of a magazine (I can't wait to sleep there by the way LOL)...
Those hanging starfish are adorable, are those a project of yours too? Now I am impatient to see what else you have been up to missy!

  4. i'll tell you ladies what, on a day i can hardly keep myself from tearing up from being overwhelmed with too much on my mind, you sure know how to give a girl a reason to smile.

the turquoise pillowcases are Lacoste and i got the pair at TJ Maxx (or Marshall's or HomeGoods???) for $9.99. the bedskirt is from Kohl's and i actually came across that thanks to Holly who posted all about her some splurges and some steals bedding. ;) on sale it was $25ish dollars and really is the perfect amount of "ruffle".

um, Holly, you'll always find our guest bed welcoming for someone as darling as yourself. bring Sean and Wren too of course when you visit. ;) the starfish were purchased from a local vintage store. $10.95 of pure seaside love.

  5. Awww, I think I will leave them at home and indulge in a girls getaway (I'll kidnap Rebecca and bring her too~).

I hope your day is going better today, but I am sure spending a 10 minute time out in your guest room does the soul a lot of good too.

    Have a lovely weekend!
